More than 4,000 far-right Israelis have entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem under Israeli police protection during a Jewish holiday, prompting strong condemnation from Palestinian officials. Among those taking part were Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and other members of the Knesset. Palestinian authorities described the visit as a dangerous escalation, accusing Israel of undermining the long-standing status quo at one of Islam's holiest sites. Palestinian worshippers were prevented from entering parts of the compound during the incursion. Palestinians fear growing restrictions on Muslim worship and increasing visits by Israeli groups could signal broader changes to access and control over the site.
