Fear and panic as magnitude 7.1 earthquake hits southern Japan

A 7.1 magnitude earthquake has hit Japan. It struck the southwestern Kumamoto prefecture in the Kyushu region. Power has been knocked out in 45,000 households. Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi says at least 50 people have been injured as buildings collapsed Local authorities say tremors continued for at least half an hour. A tsunami warning has now been lifted. Officials say no abnormalities were found at three nearby nuclear power plants. Al Jazeera’s Fadi Salameh reports from Tokyo, Japan.
