Explosions were reported on Iran's southern Qeshm Island, with Iranian state media saying operations targeted what it described as hostile targets. The incident comes as tensions remain high around the Strait of Hormuz following a brief period of de-escalation between Iran and the United States. Iran's parliament is discussing a draft bill to tighten Tehran's control over the strategic waterway, including restrictions and possible fines targeting vessels from the US, Israel and other countries it considers hostile. Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump says he believes the war with Iran could end soon, arguing Washington's military action was necessary to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran's parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the US of "theater diplomacy", saying Washington was switching between military threats and calls for negotiations. The developments come as Iran and Oman work on a temporary agreement to allow commercial vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz while a US naval blockade on Iranian southern ports continues.
