The DRC’s worst Ebola outbreak to date is turning childbirth into a terrifying ordeal. New mothers describe giving birth next to Ebola treatment centres, while missed prenatal appointments are rising as women avoid clinics for fear of infection. The UN says health service use in the hardest-hit areas is down more than 40 percent, and birth-related deaths in Ituri have doubled, as strikes and closures disrupt care.
