Gunfire and explosions rock Niger capital during overnight military mutiny

Niger’s military government says it is regaining control of the capital, Niamey, after an overnight mutiny by soldiers. Gunfire and explosions were heard as mutinous troops attacked the international airport and areas around the presidential palace. Soldiers reportedly took some of their commanders hostage at a military base near the airport.
