Drone footage released by the coast guard showed the blackened ferry, surrounded by clear water, was still generating smoke hours after the fire broke out on Wednesday night. Based on the vessel’s manifest, the number of survivors, currently at 43, and the fatalities reported so far, authorities estimated that more than 80 people remained unaccounted for, although the figures could change. The coast guard spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said the vessel’s manifest listed 117 passengers and 17 crew members. The ferry had departed from Baseco, Manila, and was bound for Coron, a popular tourist destination in Palawan known for its diving sites, beaches and island-hopping attractions. The cause of the fire is under investigation. #philippines #philippinesferryfire #ferryfire
