Israeli forces lay siege to West Bank town, detain at least 53 Palestinians

The Israeli military has laid siege to the town of Biddu in the occupied West Bank, an offensive that began on Sunday. Israeli forces have taken over a house, detained at least 53 people, stormed several homes, vandalised property and assaulted Palestinians, with schools and shops closed. The raid followed the shooting and killing of an Israeli settler near the Halamish settlement on Sunday, after which soldiers raided a hospital in Ramallah and arrested a suspect. Israeli forces also killed a Palestinian man at the Rehanim military checkpoint near Jenin and fired grenades during a raid in Sur Baher, occupied East Jerusalem, setting fire to three shops. Palestinians in Biddu say forces are conducting field interrogations and ransacking homes, while in Salfit, residents of a building with more than 75 apartments were given a week to evacuate before its threatened demolition.
