US forces leaving Iraq: American troops pull out after two decades

The last US troops are leaving Iraq, ending the American military presence there after more than two decades. The Iraqi government is calling it a historic moment and marking the departure with a two-day public holiday to celebrate its sovereignty. But September 30 was also supposed to be the deadline for Iran-aligned armed factions in Iraq to lay down their weapons, and there is little sign of that happening.
