Russian attacks across Ukraine have killed at least 36 people, including 33 in a strike on a bus in the frontline city of Kramatorsk, as Moscow intensifies its attacks across the country. A Russian glide bomb struck two passenger buses in Kramatorsk, also injuring 18 people, according to Ukrainian authorities, with Russian forces now just kilometres from the city. Residents say Kramatorsk is “dying a slow death” as Russia seeks to capture the remaining Ukrainian-held territory in the eastern Donetsk region. In Kyiv, Russian jet-powered drones also killed civilians, including two people who were trying to reach an air raid shelter when a strike hit a store. The attacks come as Russia steps up its campaign against Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure, while civilians face increasingly frequent attacks. A Kyiv resident says she never expected to spend her retirement living under the threat of war, although she believes the conflict will eventually end. The escalation comes as US officials acknowledge that there are currently no immediate prospects for a negotiated settlement to end the war. Al Jazeera’s Audrey MacAlpine reports from Kyiv.
