Storm Harry batters Mediterranean as Tunisia faces worst floods in 70 years

21/01/2026-18:10 21/01/2026-18:35 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

Storm Harry is wreaking havoc across the Mediterranean, bringing torrential rain, flooding and high winds to southern Europe and North Africa. Tunisia has been hit hardest, with at least four people reported killed and the worst flooding in more than 70 years, as inadequate infrastructure leaves residents trapped. The storm has also triggered tidal surges along Spain’s Catalonian coast, dangerously high river levels in Girona, and hurricane-force winds in Sicily, damaging harbours and prompting evacuations. The European Environment Agency warns that Europe, the world’s fastest-warming continent, remains dangerously unprepared for escalating climate risks that are set to worsen despite optimistic forecasts.
