SDF losses in Syria hit close to home for Syrian Kurds living in Iraq

In Erbil, Iraq's Kurdish region, the ongoing conflict in northeast Syria between Syrian government forces and the Kurdish-led SDF resonates deeply among the hundreds of thousands of Syrian Kurdish refugees who have built new lives there. Despite a ceasefire, demonstrations have erupted across the region in solidarity with the SDF, with protestors voicing feelings of betrayal by international allies and rallying to send aid across the border. Kurdish officials in Erbil have attempted to mediate between the Syrian government and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi, but military buildups continue on both sides as the conflict increasingly takes on an ethnic dimension. Iraq has reinforced its western border to prevent spillover, while fears grow among Syria's Kurds that their hopes for self-rule are fading. Al Jazeera's Mahmoud Abdul Wahid reports from Erbil, Iraq.
