Iran holds funeral for top commanders killed in opening US-Israeli strikes

Thousands have gathered in Tehran for the funeral of four top Iranian commanders killed in US-Israeli strikes, including the armed forces chief, IRGC commander, defence minister and a senior security official. They died on the first day of the war alongside former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The attacks have also hit military command centres, naval vessels and defence infrastructure. Iran has launched retaliatory strikes on Israel and US bases, with mourners vowing revenge and chanting "Death to America, Death to Israel". The funeral, delayed by ongoing attacks, has become a political statement of defiance, as the Revolutionary Guard vows to fight until "the shadow of war" is lifted.
