Thousands stranded as middle east conflict disrupts global flights

14/03/2026-05:36 14/03/2026-06:30 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

The backlog of travelers unable to transit through the Middle East is growing as the conflict in the region disrupts international flight routes. In Thailand, one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations, more than 400 flights have already been affected, leaving tens of thousands of passengers stranded. Many travelers who planned to transit through major Middle East hubs like Doha are now facing cancellations and uncertainty about when they can return home. Globally, around 20,000 flights have been cancelled in recent weeks, affecting more than 400,000 passengers. Frustrated travelers say they are receiving little communication from airlines, while misinformation about available flights continues to circulate online. Thailand’s government has announced limited financial assistance and visa extensions for affected travelers, but strict conditions mean only a small number of people may qualify. With ongoing disruptions across key Middle East transit routes, experts warn that clearing the current backlog could take weeks and may also affect future tourism bookings across Southeast Asia.
