Iran-linked Iraqi armed groups attack US base near Baghdad airport twice in one day

Iraq has become a secondary battlefield in the Iran-US conflict, with Iran-linked armed groups intensifying attacks on American targets. The Iraqi Hezbollah brigades released drone footage showing strikes on the US Victory military base near Baghdad airport, which was targeted twice in one day by drones and missiles. The US Embassy subsequently urged American citizens to immediately leave Iraq, citing a significant threat. In Erbil, a drone strike damaged multiple homes in a civilian area with no military sites nearby. The US also carried out counterattacks, striking two Popular Mobilization Forces locations in Kirkuk with airstrikes, injuring at least four and causing a huge fire. Iran-aligned groups have vowed revenge for the killing of Iran's late Supreme Leader and continue targeting US facilities, including the embassy in Baghdad and consulate in Erbil. The Iraqi government has repeatedly warned that Iraq cannot be used to settle scores, but the country remains engulfed in the escalating regional conflict.
