Paris shopkeepers challenge curfew, they say it targets African community

Shops in Paris's Chateau Rouge neighbourhood, the heart of the city's African community, must now close at 8pm under a nighttime curfew imposed by local authorities. Traders say the measure is hurting their businesses and disproportionately affects African-owned shops, whilst authorities argue it reduces illegal vending, noise and antisocial behaviour. Some residents welcome the curfew, citing concerns over security and cleanliness, but around 300 shopkeepers are challenging it in court. A judge will decide how to balance the rights of residents and traders without marginalising a community central to the neighbourhood's identity. Al Jazeera's Natacha Butler reports from Paris.
