UAE says dealing with ‘missile and drone attacks’ from Iran for the second consecutive day

For the second day in a row, the UAE says it has been targeted by Iranian missile attacks, with alarms sounding again across the country as air defence systems intercepted incoming threats. The UAE's Ministry of Defence confirmed that any sounds heard across the country were the result of these interceptions. A fire broke out at a petroleum facility in Fujairah during yesterday's attacks — an extremely important site for the UAE because it circumvents the Strait of Hormuz and is able to get through Iran's blockade. Gulf nations have issued strong condemnations of the Iranian aggression. Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait have all condemned the attacks on the UAE while consistently calling for de-escalation, with no one believing there is a military solution. Statements from Saudi Arabia and Qatar affirmed their support for Pakistani mediation efforts to bring both sides back to the negotiating table. The Gulf depends on the Strait of Hormuz to get its energy supplies to the world, and the world depends on Gulf resources. People in the region are on edge but hoping diplomacy can prevail.
