Food prices surge in Iran as families struggle to afford basics

Food remains widely available across Iranian markets, but soaring inflation is placing essential goods out of reach for many families. According to the Statistical Centre of Iran, prices of some staple items in urban areas have more than tripled compared to the same period last year, with solid vegetable oil rising over 300 per cent and imported rice increasing by over 200 per cent. Analysts attribute the surge to the US naval blockade, high production costs, currency devaluation and inflation, with ordinary Iranians bearing the brunt of the crisis.
