Trump says US will ‘win’ war on Iran either way

12/05/2026-23:05 12/05/2026-23:15 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

US President Donald Trump says the war on Iran and the Strait of Hormuz crisis will be high on the agenda during his visit to China, where he is expected to meet President Xi Jinping. Speaking before boarding Marine One, Trump struck an upbeat tone despite stalled negotiations with Tehran and rising global economic concerns linked to the war. He praised Xi Jinping as “a friend” and said China had been “relatively good” during the crisis, despite relying heavily on oil shipments from the Gulf. Trump said he expected “good things” from the Beijing trip but insisted the US did not need China’s help in dealing with Iran, declaring Washington would “win it one way or the other — peacefully or otherwise”. The US president also predicted ships would soon resume moving through the Strait of Hormuz, leading to lower oil prices and easing inflation in the United States. His remarks came after new figures showed US inflation recording its sharpest rise since the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2023. Trump has repeatedly argued that short-term economic pain caused by the war is justified if it prevents Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, while dismissing concerns about the wider economic fallout.
