Trump expands deportations to African countries under third-country agreements

06/07/2026-19:03 06/07/2026-19:15 חדשות قناة Al Jazeera דיווח

The Trump administration has expanded its deportation programme beyond the Americas, securing agreements with several African nations to accept migrants — including people with no connection to those countries. Deportees, among them a Vietnamese-American man sent to South Sudan and an Iranian woman transferred to the Central African Republic, are being held in third countries under arrangements critics say violate legal protections. The US reportedly withheld $30 million from the UNHCR's Cameroon office to secure one such deal. Thousands of Cameroonians in the US also face the loss of temporary protected status, raising further deportation risks. Al Jazeera's Nicolas Haque reports from Yaounde, Cameroon.
