Europe battles worsening wildfires as Spain and Portugal deploy emergency units

Wildfires are burning across parts of Europe, with emergency military units deployed in Spain and Portugal to support overstretched firefighting teams. In Greece, an industrial estate in Thessaloniki has been left in charred ruins, while homes and cars have been destroyed near Perpignan in southern France. The third stage of the Tour de France has been closed to spectators due to the fire risk. The EU is sending additional water-bombing aircraft from Cyprus and Sweden.
