Stephen Miller as Trump chief of staff means more executive action: Analysis

US President Donald Trump has named Stephen Miller as his new chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles, days after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress in the midterm elections. Miller, a key architect of Trump’s hardline immigration policies, takes over on Monday. Al Jazeera’s Alan Fisher says Miller is seen as loyal and able to enforce the president’s will. He says Wiles handed in her resignation in the Oval Office on Thursday night and is moving to the Trump political operation. Fisher says Miller will use all the levers of government to pursue Trump’s agenda, suggesting Trump working with Democrats is unlikely. David Cohen, professor of political science and director of the Applied Politics Program at the University of Akron, says it depends on what the president wants, and that Trump is spoiling for a fight with Democrats. He says Wiles was a strong administrator, while Miller will focus on advising and enforcing, and expects more executive action, which may end up in the courts. Cohen says there is very little US support for the Iran war. Subscribe to our channel: bit.ly
