More than 40,000 Filipino workers are stranded in Manila after government restrictions halted deployments to parts of the Middle East amid escalating US-Israel strikes on Iran and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Officials say the measures aim to protect overseas workers, while many Filipino seafarers remain at sea near the Strait of Hormuz. Thousands of maritime workers across the Gulf are reported stranded on commercial and cruise vessels. Some seafarers say they were left stuck on ships for days after traffic through the waterway was disrupted. Support groups report a surge in distress calls from workers and their families seeking assistance. The Philippine government says it is helping repatriate and support affected workers, though measures are largely short-term.
